Centennial of Metabo (1924-2024)
On March 19, 2024, the centenary celebration of Metabo was successfully held in Shanghai. Over the past 100 years, Metabo has continuously promoted the development of the power tool industry and provided first-class solutions for professional workers and industrial fields. Founded in 1924 and headquartered in Jöttingen, Germany, Metabo is one of the famous professional power tool manufacturers in Germany and has a leading market share in Europe.
Metabo power tools are well-known in the world for their high quality, and their products are exported to more than 100 countries. Its global success stems from a century of excellence and unremitting pursuit of high quality.
In 2015, Hitachi Koki, a subsidiary of Hitachi, announced that it would acquire Metabo, a German power tool manufacturer, in full. The acquisition cost totaled 22.1 billion yen (about 1.15 billion yuan). Hitachi strives to expand sales in Europe. The equity transfer was carried out on March 1, 2016.
Metabo has sales outlets in 25 countries around the world, especially in Europe, centered on Germany, with a strong sales network. Hitachi Koki hopes to use this acquisition to expand sales in Europe in addition to the domestic Japanese and North American markets. Metabo's consolidated sales in fiscal 2014 were approximately 47 billion yen.
In 2017, the US private equity fund KKR & Co. said it had agreed to acquire Hitachi Koki, a power tool subsidiary of Hitachi, for approximately 147.1 billion yen (approximately US$1.3 billion). It was later renamed Koichi Koki, and together with the acquired Metabo, Metabo now belongs to American capital enterprises.
Metabo's century-old experience has gone from ordinary to glorious, and then from glorious to ordinary, from acquisition to acquisition. What has changed is every honor, and what remains unchanged is its century-old craftsmanship. We also look forward to Metabo, a century-old power tool brand, winning its honor again.
